It's located on the Pacific Coast of California about half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles near Hearst Castle and the Big Sur Coast.
The town's most striking feature is Morro Rock, a 576 foot high volcanic plug which stands at the entrance to the harbor.
In February 1968, the San Luis Obispo County Historical Society and the City of Morro Bay succeeded in having Morro Rock declared California Historical Landmark number 821.
