On California's Central Coast where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean lies Big Sur.
Famous for it's rugged coastline and mountain views, this is the longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States.
Highway 1 through Big Sur is a designated American National Scenic Byway & California Scenic Highway.
This is indeed a national treasure which is always so very popular for it's stunning views with locals and tourists alike
One of the most famous landmark on this coastal highway is Bixby Creek Bridge or Bixby Bridge. Completed in 1932, the concrete span, one of the highest bridges of its kind in the world, soars 260 feet/79 meters above the bottom of a steep canyon carved by Bixby Creek.
The bridge is 120 miles (190 km) south of San Francisco and 13 miles (21 km) south of Carmel in Monterey County along State Route 1.
McWay Falls is an 80-foot-tall waterfall that flows year-round from McWay Creek in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park directly into the Pacific Ocean making it a “tidefall”.
There is abundance of nature's beauty on this entire stretch of coastline. You can spend a few hours or come back again and again to explore this majestic California scenery.
